The journey of childhood learning is even more meaningful when families have the opportunity to share in the experience. We encourage parents to take a participatory role in their child’s education, beginning with our “Getting Ready for School” Workshop before your family joins our school, to the family classroom visit and continuing throughout your child’s time at Barrow.
As with everything else we do, we prioritize your child’s developmental needs as part of the communication process. We recognize that children in different age groups need different things, and we differentiate our communication with parents accordingly.
In the Toddler and 2s/3s classes, the separation process is a strong area of focus in our communication with parents, particularly at the beginning of each year. We conduct much of this communication through emails, phone calls, informal in-person check ins, and Storypark. In older groups, the children make themselves known through their play and work, as well as through their interactions with one another, their teachers, and their environment. We provide parents with individualized documentation on these aspects of their child’s school experience. Documentation is coupled with regular group updates where we’ll discuss group curriculum and class-wide experiences.
We use numerous channels to provide high-quality information to parents and guardians regarding their children’s learning experiences and development including Storypark Online Portfolios, Parent Teacher Conferences, Early Learning Summaries, and End of Year Reflections. We pride ourselves on exceeding expectations by communicating with unparalleled clarity and detail.
Parents also have the opportunity to engage in a variety of workshops throughout the school year. Workshops are led by our teachers, administrators as well as trusted child development experts. Workshops are designed based on parent interest and have included the following topics and presenters:
