The Speed Car Gazette

What a wondrous few weeks we’ve been having! As the late-autumn chill settles in, our classroom has been buzzing with new rhythms, discoveries, and projects. The shift in season has invited fresh routines, cozy connections, and lots of joyful learning, exactly the kind of magic we love to share with you.

Classroom Jobs

For weeks now, the children have been chomping at the bit for more responsibility. We’ve seen them spontaneously pour water for friends, offer utensils at snack time, and even help their classmates get their mats dressed for rest. Their eagerness to care for one another showed us they were more than ready to introduce classroom jobs.

The jobs will rotate weekly/ bi-weekly, giving every child a chance to explore roles they love as well as those that stretch them. Some jobs will quickly become favorites, others… maybe not as much, but each one plays an important part in in the care and keeping of each other and our classroom.

Letter Work/ Word Work

We also started our handwriting curriculum, beginning with the letters L and F! Next week, we’ll journey on to E and H. Throughout the week, the children built letters using wooden pieces, and practiced writing on blackboards with chalk, using the wet–dry–try technique. We even answered playful riddles to help us think about words that begin with each letter.

Group Build Construction Cards

On Wednesday, we introduced a new block-building challenge using picture cards as prompts, and the children eagerly worked together to recreate each structure as a group. This shared building experience encouraged collaboration while also helping children feel more confident tackling larger, more expansive creations later on, especially when they need a spark of inspiration. Replicating a model invites rich cognitive work: observing details, comparing shapes and sizes, planning step-by-step, and thinking about balance and stability.

Hannukah Celebration

We closed our week with a lovely celebration in honor of Hanukkah. We began with a read-aloud, then moved into a hands-on candle-making activity that the children were deeply excited about. We explored dreidels, shared donuts, and enjoyed the feeling of learning and celebrating together.

Have a lovely weekend,
