We planted our own wheatgrass in the Yellow Room! Before planting real grass, we put pretend grass and flowers in our sensory table for the children to explore. They loved planting imaginary gardens and we still have these materials out for them to explore.
After exploring our pretend grass, Liz brought in soil, seeds, and a watering can. The Bunnies took turns pouring seeds, touching the soil, watering the grass, and observing the growth.
After the grass grew for a few days, the Bunnies had a chance to cut it! With a teacher nearby to help practice safe scissor use, the children worked on their cutting skills and changed the length and shape of the grass.
The grass also became a source of imaginary play, inviting dinosaurs and babies to make a home!
What began as a nature and sensory exploration took on many different forms. The children made this project their own, bringing their imaginations into every step, while also practicing many important skills along the way.
