The Brown Room PM Brief

Welcome to the first ever Brown Room Brief! You can expect these Brief twice monthly on Fridays. It will update you as to the goings on in our classroom, and give you full picture of our Brown Room community! Our first Brief will focus on…

Routine, Routine, Routine

This week we have been working to set the routines and structures that will shape our year. Here’s a peek!

Hello/Goodbye Meeting

Our twice daily meetings are the time of day when we come together as a community to reflect upon our day, read our schedule, and join in group discussion. As the year develops, children will take on different roles in our meeting such as coming up with the question of the day, attendance taker and schedule reader.

The Cafe

Our classroom cafe is our embedded practical life skills space. Here children get to flex their independence by finding their specially numbered cup to fill up with water when thirsty. They can also find towels to clean up any spills, and small hand brooms to clean up food crumbs from snack (among the many other crumbs that magically appear in a 3/4s classroom!)

Choice Board

The Choice Board is used as a way for students to make clear where they will be playing during our Open Time. They are welcome to move their card to any available green spot on the board. The board provides students the opportunity to make conscious decisions about their work and interests. It also provides chances for students to practice persevering through challenges, asking the question, “What do you do when your first choice doesn’t work out?”

Some questions you can ask your child about our week…

-What is the unpopped popcorn kernel dance?

-What is your water cup number?

-Did you visit the gym, roof, or track this week?
