ART with Jim: 3/4’s Murals, January 2026

I like to use the remnants of the cave for one final week before returning the art room to its former glory. I feel like the Grinch at the beginning of each class, fielding questions about “what happened to the cave?” and “why did you tear down the cave?” Needing to use the room for other afterschool classes and science never seems to satisfy them so I’m lucky enough to be able to offer a full-body type painting experience which pulls them into the next chapter of our art journey.

The Red room got a unique experience of seeing the cave as it was left last week with the fourth wall down. They also got the initial job of “whitewashing” the imagery in order to provide us with a fresh canvas to work with as the classes continued. As the classes went on, I added colors to the mix. It ends up being another layered painting much like the first semesters paintings.
