There are so many wonderful things about our West Village neighborhood… the plentiful parks, robust restaurant scene, amazing art museums/galleries, and so much more. But did you know that just down the block from Barrow is the truly incredible Hudson Park Library, our local branch of the NYPL? It is truly a magical place!
For as long as I’ve been at Barrow, Kristy the Librarian has welcomed Barrow children, educators, and families into the friendly confines of her library. Whether checking out books for personal use or researching for a class project, the HPL has become a de facto extension of our school. In turn, Kristy has made frequent visits to us here at Barrow, bringing new books, songs, and games to our classroom communities.
Last year’s Orange Room makes “The Librarian’s Promise” in anticipation of receiving their library cards… some for the first time ever!
Browsing the stacks helps build important literacy, social, and school-readiness skills!
Checking books out helps develop an important sense of independence and responsibility.
The library is conveniently located right next to John J. Walker Park (aka Leroy Park), a Barrow favorite! They host tons of programming for all ages, including Little Movers Story Time, Lapsit Story Time, and Art Outdoors. Children can check out up to 50 (!!!) books at a time for a loan period of 3 weeks with NO late fines. And by visiting the library, you not only support a vital public institution but also can avoid cluttering up the alway-so-spacious-with-readily-available-storage places we call “NYC apartments”… “Risk Free Reading” as the library now calls it!
If you haven’t already, we encourage you to venture down 7th Avenue and familiarize yourself with this amazing space. The library supports our Barrow learners and we in turn want to support the library back.
Happy reading!!!
