Drawing is an experience that is available for the children every day. Through continuous practice and exposure, we are witnessing a natural progression in the children’s transition from abstract marks to intentional lines and shapes. These lines and shapes are the foundations of representational drawing such as names and faces.
Of course we all know how important our names are to who we are. It is no surprise that this is one of the first things that children learn to write. All of the children’s names are printed and available to them so that they can reference them if it is needed.
Representational drawing is a combination of shapes. Once children have the idea to draw something, thinking about it in terms of what shapes they see is helpful step. Recently, many of the children have been drawing faces.
