Last week, the Aurora students became junior polar explorers! During choice time, we dove into the world of ice habitats with a hands-on activity using ice in their sensory bin. The children were fascinated. They problem-solved to free “food” (shiny balls) from icy traps, closely watched the ice melt, and even hypothesized about what would happen if they introduced paper to their frozen world.
Learning Objectives
Habitat Awareness: Understanding that polar regions (Arctic and Antarctic) are cold, icy places with unique animal inhabitants.
Science Concepts: Exploring the properties of ice (solid/cold), water (liquid), and the process of melting.
Fine Motor Skills: Engaging in activities like using their hands to melt ice or handling small animal figurines.
