We did it — The Speed Cars completed an entire school year together!
As we said goodbye to May, we counted down the days at every Goodbye Meeting. The children took turns diligently “Xing off” each school day and checking our estimates as to how many days we have left.
The 12 Last Days
Ajia held a special meeting, listing the ideas the children had for play-experiences they wanted to relive. For each of the last 12 days of school, we brought back a kid request:
Day 1 – Shopping Cart game
Day 2 – Rainbow painting
After creating their rainbow paintings so earnestly, the Speed Cars were given time to articulate their thoughts during a studio meeting.
Day 3 – Colorful water play
Day 4 – Kinetic sand
Day 5- Sand and water
Day 6 – Superhero capes
Day 7 – Marble run
Day 8 – A new playground: the Speed Cars discovered the “Spiderweb” playground at Washington Square Park.
Day 9 – Baby dolls
Day 10 – The play kitchen
Day 11 – Painting with our hands and feet
Day 12 – Wooden ramps for marbles
We even brought back our “Shoe Greeting” at the request of the children.
Lady Bug Release
After observations of larvae, pupae and beetles emerging, we guessed how many ladybugs we should expect to release.
Farewell, Ladybugs. Have a happy life!
Farewell, Speed Cars! Have a happy summer!
