Secret Hideaway

Hiding from creatures both real and extraordinary has been a favorite theme in our imaginative play. Whether racing around the track, letting out excited howls as they ran from wolves, or carefully building hideaways to stay protected from monsters, the Speed Cars have shown time and again just how brave and valiant they can be. These dramatic play scenarios allow children to explore feelings of fear and courage in a joyful, empowering way.

Perhaps the most meaningful part of these pretend games is how they bring the Speed Cars together. During one memorable moment of “monster fort” play, the group worked collaboratively for the entirety of roof time to build a fort strong enough to keep the monsters out. Every child contributed, carrying materials, adding ideas, and problem-solving together, to create the magic you see below.

Letters of the Week

(C and U)

C, C, Count with me

U,U, Up we see!

Curious Crabs come close to you

Clap, Clap C and U

The Speed Cars went on two letter hunts this week, using simple, silly poems to search for specific letters around the classroom. These playful hunts helped strengthen their letter recognition while also supporting their handwriting practice.

The Cave

Each winter, the Big Kids take part in a transformative and immersive experience: painting in a prehistoric cave. In the art room, Jim guides the children on a journey back in time, explaining that the first artists painted on cave walls rather than on canvas. After hearing stories about our distant relatives and how they expressed themselves through art, the children are invited to step inside the cave themselves, where they have the opportunity to paint directly on the walls, experiencing history, creativity, and art in a truly hands-on way.

Friday Share

Thank you all for another wonderful Friday Share! This week, we added an extra component: after each item was shared, either the presenter or the audience identified the letter the object began with. This small addition gave our much-loved sharing tradition an extra boost in letter recognition.

From uncles and unicorns to cats and capes, the Speed Cars showed what they know, made thoughtful connections, and practiced speaking in front of a group. Friday Share was filled with voices, laughs, the bravery of standing in front of an audience, and a whole lot of joy.

See you next week!
