Flexible Foxes News #8

Welcome to the eighth edition of the Blue Room digest – every other week you can find pictures and updates on the latest happenings in Flexible Fox world! Here you will also find conversation starters, important “Housekeeping” tips, and upcoming dates.

It has been a busy few weeks here in the Blue Room! Following Winter Break, The Flexible Foxes have jumped right back into our regular routines.

We began business as usual on our first Monday back with a new Letter of the Week! Kid Teachers have opportunities to show the class the letter sound and the motion that goes with it.

The Blue Room Cafe continues to be a lively and comforting time of nourishment and connection.

We began our study of Brave by reading Piper Chen Sings by Maris Pasquale Doran and Phillipa Soo. Taking cues from Piper Chen, we’re remembering to say hello to the butterflies in our stomach whenever we feel nervous.

Work Time continues to inspire, with Dramatic Play drawing much excitement and creativity.

We’ve added the rocket ship as an additional element in the Dramatic Play area. Aliens and astronauts abound!

Our “Storytelling Station” at Letter Time has begun to spill over into Work Time, with some friends beginning to pen small books at the drawing table. Teachers remain nearby when children wish to dictate their writing.

We’ve added “Puppet Shows” to Letter Time. This is an exciting development in which children are beginning to make sense of sequencing, narrative structures, and dialogue within stories.

The rhyming puzzle has also been a great hit at Letter Time. Flexible Foxes have been practicing producing and recognizing rhymes and have been working collaboratively to solve all the matches.

We kicked off our Change Makers Study with a story about our first change maker, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., just ahead of the eponymous holiday. We have been delighted by all of your responses so far and cannot wait to hear which change maker each family chooses. So far we have added: Dr. King, Bob Marley, Jane Jacobs, and Nelson Mandela to the Brave Wall.

We shared our park time with friends from the Orange Room and bid them farewell through the fence when they had to head back for a birthday celebration.

We have continued to brave the chilly weather with our many layers and bits of gear. The Flexible Foxes have been delighted by discoveries of icy patches and snow formations as we continue to explore outdoors.
