ART with Jim: 3/4’s The Grand Finale, DRIPPING, Fall 2025

We completed the final layer of the paintings this week and they’re ready to go home on Thursday in time for the holiday break.

We began the year, painting with one color per week plus white, introducing the children to TINTING, CONTRAST, VISUAL BALANCE, ABSTRACTION, MOVEMENT and PATIENCE. The hope is to set up a simple structure with enough leeway, offered through unique painting tools and an open ended goal, where the kids feel success and joy each week.

Next came IMAGES, offering a chance to add some realism to the works which, intentionally or not, build deeper meaning into the paintings.

Black comes next followed by white and glitter, culminating in this past week’s dripping.

After so many layers, I emphasize to the artists that this drip layer is one of 11 and should be thought of as such. Rather than make a drip painting, make a multi-layered painting with some drips as the final touch.

Hoping I covered everyone in the photos. Sometimes the craziness of drip day causes me to miss a few. Sorry in advance!
